Five friends collected sponsorship money for a charity run. They collected £5, £8, £7, £10, and £5. What is the mean (average) amount of money they collected?
To find the mean, add all the amounts together (£5 + £8 + £7 + £10 + £5 = £35) and then divide by the number of friends (5). £35 ÷ 5 = £7.
In a class of 30 students, 18 have brown eyes. How many students do not have brown eyes?
To find how many students do not have brown eyes, subtract those with brown eyes from the total: 30 - 18 = 12.
Pie charts are best used to show changes over time.
Pie charts are ideal for showing how parts relate to a whole, but they do not effectively show changes over time; line charts serve that purpose better.
