Each character uses 8 bits, so for 5 characters, the total is 8 x 5 = 40 bits.
A digital clock uses a 12-hour format, where each hour can be represented in binary. If we represent 12 hours in binary, how many unique 4-bit combinations can represent the hours displayed on the clock?
In a 12-hour format, you can have hours from 1 to 12, which means 12 unique representations, though 4 bits can show 16 combinations, only 12 are used.
Data in a computer can be stored only in binary format.
